Aftercare Instructions

Essential guidelines for maintaining your tattoo and ensuring optimal recovery.

Tattoos Without Second Skin (traditional healing)

If wrapped or covered, remove once you get home or after a couple hours. If no wrapping was put on, then you can skip that step! Wash with warm water and non-scented (preferably anti-bacterial soap), let air dry or pat dry with clean paper towel. Do that 1-2 times a day. Moisturize using non-scented daily moisturizer (we recommend Lubriderm) 1-2 times a day as needed. The moisturizer is just to prevent the skin/scab from pulling or cracking.

DO NOT pick or scratch at your tattoo. It will itch, that’s normal during the healing process.

Tattoos With Second Skin

Leave your second skin on for 3-5 days. Listen to your artist, for some things we want you to just leave it on, but sometimes we will say to keep the first layer on for 24 hours, remove and then apply a second piece. If it starts to get very red and itchy, remove the second skin because you may be allergic to the adhesive (it’s rare but it happens). A bit of redness and itchiness around the area is fine.

Liquid will collect under the second skin, that is totally normal and nothing to worry about. In a day or two it may dry down. Do not sweat or do strenuous activity while wearing this, the sweat can make it extremely itchy.

Remove the second skin in a warm shower or under warm running water. Once removed, wash your tattoo with non-scented antibacterial soap and let air dry. Then take care of like normal, wash 1-2 times a day and moisturize 1-2 times a day as needed.
